Ann Martin (Tuesday and Thursday):

Australian Diploma in remedial and relaxation Massage (Level 6) – focus on deep tissue, therapeutic sport treatments

Traditional Hawaiian Kahuna massage level 3

About Ann:

Ann graduated in 2022 with a Diploma of Remedial Massage therapy. She has always had a big interest in the well-being of her own body as well as that of others around her. She has suffered from chronic pain and has been able to implement change through massages and a holistic lifestyle. It has improved her physical and mental well-being and she thrives on passing on this experience to her clients, who suffer from repetitive strain injury and bad posture.

She combines her long wave-like strokes from the kahuna style into her massage, to fully relax the client, before she gets deeper into the trigger points and releases the tension built up.

She is definitely not shy of going deep, and works with the feedback of the client to achieve the best outcome.

Also very beneficial are the hot stone treatments she implements into her sessions. She uses the warmth of the stones to get into tense areas quicker and with a lot less pain than a normal treatment would do, as they are used for trigger point releases.

She spends her spare time as an active hiker as well as trail runner and she likes to challenge herself with new projects (working at retreats across the country as well as a tourguide).

Having moved to sunny Nelson last year in October, she makes most of summer and you’ll find her roaming the hills, looking for new mountains to climb.

Sessions are best booked at 60min+

Kahuna Massage:

As a holistic bodywork, Kahuna massage eliminates energy blockages in the body to allow life to flow freely throughout the mind, body and spirit. It involves long, flowing strokes that reconnect the individual to the core of their being and restore balance to their life.

There are two important aspects of Kahuna massage that set it apart from other types of massage therapy:

  1. It is very rhythmic and vigorous. The practitioner uses their hands, elbows, fingers and even their forearms as they rhythmically move around the table. The people who have experienced lomi lomi before often said that the rhythmic motions alone already have a deeply relaxing effect that is different from the muscle relaxation coming from conventional massages.
  2. In Kahuna massage, the practitioner’s intention and focus is of paramount importance. They are trained to be focused totally on their client with an attitude of compassion and love, which is the essence of the “aloha” spirit that is sacred to the Hawaiian people.

The Kahuna massage is often said to be a holistic natural therapy that is designed to heal the body, mind, and spirit.

About Jo:

Jo graduated in 2021 with excellence in a Diploma of Remedial Massage therapy. Her passion for massage stems from her love of running, having been a competitive runner for over 35 years, currently competing in both track and cross country events at a national level in the masters grade. Personal experience has reinforced the importance of regular massage for both rehabilitation after injuries and regular maintenance, in order to perform at the highest level.
Jo has also coached athletics for the past 9 years, becoming an accredited coach for athletics N.Z, looking after the children’s and junior section for her old club. Whilst she has a love for working with athlete’s, the benefits of receiving massage to correct muscle imbalances and relieve pain is something all people can benefit from. Along with providing remedial treatments, Jo also specialises in Manual lymphatic Drainage (including Mobiderm), providing relief from many everyday ailments.
Outside of the clinic Jo loves escaping to the countryside for camping weekends with her hubby, as well as her regular runs. Both are looking forward to exploring the delights of Nelson after relocating here this year.

As part of the treatments available, I use a special compression bandage utilizing Mobiderm under the compression element. Mobiderm is a medical device made up of foam cubes encased between two non-woven bandages. This is designed to improve the flow of lymphatic fluid, along with helping break down more fibrotic or sclerotic cutaneous areas.

Whilst largely the use of this treatment is for patients suffering from Lymphoedema or Lipedema, it can be beneficial to many other conditions. These include post-surgery swelling, post mastectomy edema, sinusitis, tinnitus, muscle sprains, strains tears, chronic fatigue, endometriosis, tension headaches and migraines, Sports recovery, strengthening immune system and stress reduction. The treatment is very gentle and relaxing for patients. Normally a course of treatments is required, duration and frequency can vary between patients.

For more information, please feel free to contact the clinic.

Lymph Massage involves a stimulation of the Lymphatic system.  Very light pressure is utilized to access and clear blockages in affected areas.  Works really well in de-toxing the body  ie pre-post surgical,  reducing oedema (swelling) following trauma, and helping get rid of waste products (ie Lactic acid).

Appropriate for Post Mastectomy and Lymph system damage or removal  of nodes.

Sessions are best booked at 60min+
